President-elect Barack Obama and congressional Democrats are bulldozing a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that limits the window to file discrimination suits to 180 days, with new legislation making it easier to challenge discrimination in employment, education and housing, among others.
The legislative effort is an attempt to correct a controversial 5-4 Supreme Court ruling that made it more difficult for people to file discrimination suits. Newly proposed legislation will relax that statute of limitation, giving people more time to file complaints. And while President Bush is threatening to veto the bill, Obama is eager to sign it.
