What is the ADA?

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) protects Americans with disabilities against discrimination. The act is a landmark piece of legislation signed into law in July 1990, with major amendments added in 2008. In honor of the ADA's 20th anniversary, government agencies, disability groups, nonprofits, communities, schools, and other organizations will celebrate the anniversary by hosting events, workshops, trainings, and celebrations that recognize the impact of the ADA in Iowa. We encourage everyone to get involved in this year-long celebration that focuses on the triumphs garnered by this legislation and the hurdles still left to overcome.

How can I get involved?

There are hundreds of ways to get involved all throughout the year. For more information, visit the ADA Iowa website at www.adaiowa.webs.com for toolkits, resources, event ideas, and more. You can also call 515-281-0367 to talk with one of the VISTA members of the Iowa Civil & Human Rights VISTA Project who are spearheading these efforts.
